Compass Centre, Bankstown
Bringing a Bankstown landmark back to life as a mixed-use precinct, with an active ground plane timed to the arrival of Sydney Metro.
Restore the Compass Centre to its former glory, in new and inviting ways.
Bankstown is changing fast, with Sydney Metro services on the way to connect it to the city. Barings, with Aware Real Estate, is redeveloping the Compass Centre into two build-to-rent residential buildings and a commercial building, joined by an activated ground plane.
We advise the Barings development management team on retail strategy: what the ground plane should hold, how it should trade, and how it serves residents, workers and the wider town centre.
A town centre in transition
Metro, once open, will reshape who comes to Bankstown and how. The retail had to be set for the town it is becoming, not the one it was.
Build-to-rent residents
Renters who stay long-term need a ground plane that works daily, not a mix that only looks good at launch.
A local landmark
The Compass Centre means something to Bankstown. The retail had to respect that and give people a reason to come back.
Retail strategy for the ground plane across the residential and commercial buildings.
As an extension of Barings' internal development management team, feeding retail thinking into design decisions as they're made.
A retail strategy matched to Bankstown's next chapter, so the ground plane is planned to trade from day one.
